Nan's guidelines for mindful art

There Are No Mistakes

I firmly believe that there are no mistakes when creating art.  Keep creating no matter how you feel about the results.  You will learn something every time.  There are no mistakes - just opportunities to try something you may not have considered

Find the Awe in the Ordinary

Develop a practice of noticing the Awesomeness in the ordinary. Give your attention to something you notice or appreciate.  Take a deep breath in with your attention still focused.  Then exhale, noticing the awesomeness in what held your attention.

Anything is Possible One Stroke (or Step) at a Time

You have heard it before.  Trust that making one stroke on the page, or taking one small step forward, moves you closer to your goal.  Sometimes a blank page can seem overwhelming.  Taking the first small step can start you on your journey.

Enjoy the Process

Focus on the process, not the end result.  The process is where the juice is.  It allows you to relax into the flow of creativity.

Play

Remember the joy you felt as a child when you received a new set of markers or a lego set?  Reignite that inner child and play.  Play with colors, media, shapes and patterns.

Be Gentle

Nurture your creative spirit.  Be open and be curious.  Try something new.  Do not compare yourself to others.  This is your journey.  Remember - Talent is an interest that you've practiced!

If Uncertain - refer back to the fir-st item in this list - THERE ARE NO MISTAKES!
