About Me

My Approach to Mindful Art

I believe that we all have a creative talent and that we can use creativity as a path to living more mindfully.  My passion is to share my  journey and techniques that I have learned with others so that they too can experience the power of calming one's self through a creative practice.

I am  a certified  Yoga/Meditation teacher, Reiki Level II practitioner and also a Certified Zentangle® Teacher (CZT).

My Influences

My background is in Economics and math.  While I was always creative as a child, I  was never encouraged to pursue any art techniques.  But....I was always a doodler....especially in school and business meetings.  This led me to explore the world of Zentangle and eventually become a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT).  As an adult, I have also gravitated towards Mandalas.  I think I like the mathematical and symmetrical nature of Mandalas and the concept of sacred geometry.  However...I also had a desire to explore abstract and representational art.  This led me to learn various techniques and and the use of color, mediums and mark making.

While my artistic child was never encouraged, I had several influences in my household.  The first is my Danish/German mother who collected Scandinavian and American  folk art.  Our house was filled with Peter Hunt-influenced art, particularly items by Nancy Whorf.  In addition, my father owned several paint and wallpaper stores and my first jobs were sorting paint color cards and cataloging wallpaper books.  I remember spending hours choosing my favorite colors and being mesmerized by the wallpaper patterns.

Additionally, I have been practicing meditation and a student of mindfulness since my teens.  I have found that working with my art, I can achieve a deep sense of calm and focus on the awesomeness of the moment.

All of this fueled the color landscape of my mind and now I have found an artistic outlet that combines all of these influences.

A core element of my approach is that there are no mistakes...only new opportunities that you may not have considered.  This is a powerful teaching that carries over into all areas of my life
